West Village Wedding | Lindsay & Taylor

Lindsay and Taylor's West Village wedding was just one of those brilliant days when everything goes your way.  It was pouring down rain literally moments before we stepped out on to the balcony for their first look, but then stayed bright and sunny the rest of the day!  We all even got cabs quickly to get us from place to place - on a Saturday in New York City no less!  It's so great when the things that may stress a couple out during a wedding day just miraculously vanish and they are able to just enjoy!

Also, big thanks to Stephen Elliott who was my second shooter for the day.  You rock, man!  The biggest thanks go out to Lindsay and Taylor, you guys were awesome.  Thank you!!!

Cobble Hill Engagement | Rebecca & Andrew

Let's take a short trip back in time to Rebecca and Andrew's Cobble Hill engagement shoot! It was my last one of 2014 and we couldn't have asked for more perfect late fall weather in NYC.  Plus, how great is that coat that Rebecca has on??  Super cool. Looking forward to seeing these two again in Pennsylvania for their wedding!  Thanks guys!

A Chinese-Fusion Wedding | Eric & Jacquelyn

I loved this two day Chinese-fusion wedding that Eric and Jackie had.  We spent the first day in Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn at Frankies Sputino, which is hard to beat, then the next back in Manhattan at the Golden Unicorn in Chinatown.  Some serious ground was covered and since these two are a complete pleasure to be around, it was non-stop good times!  Thanks Eric and Jackie!

New Work | Glass Olive

In the interest of continuing to shoot new work and expand my current portfolios, I had NYC model Glass Olive and my frequent collaborator Ana Marie Salamat on makeup come in for a shoot a couple of weeks ago.  I used early photographs of Isabella Rossellini as an inspiration for the shoot and Olive did a wonderful job of taking that idea and running with it.  Thanks to the team for helping to make it happen! I envisioned the shoot in black and white, but ended up really liking the color grade I put on this particular image.  May not make it into the portfolio, but here it lives nonetheless.

PH2 Associate Photographer

It's with great enthusiasm that I get to announce that I've been approved by the man himself and am now a PH2 Pro Associate photographer!   Peter Hurley has been a mentor of mine for awhile and I credit him for helping me bring my headshot photography to the next level.   He has really helped me tighten up the product that I end up handing over to you guys and the other photographers I've met along the way through my involvement with PH2 have been nothing but encouraging to each other; the support system within this community has been impressive from the start. The actual photography aspect of all this is such a small part too; Peter really hammered that home for me.  The client interaction and the EXPRESSION of what comes across in the frame is where the best work happens.  It's not easy to bring out multiple aspects of a person's personality after only just meeting them and having it result in an honest photograph, but Peter is a master at it.  He's coached me forward in that area by leaps and bounds.

This is all a long way of saying that I really appreciate his endorsement and am looking forward to working closer with this great group of photographers!  You can check out my PH2 profile right here at http://ph2pro.com/kentmeister.

Hank | NYC Street Portraits

Recently I've been looking for ways I can break out of my comfort zone here and there.  For example, I've always loved street portraits from guys like Zach Arias (his Q&A book is great, by the way.  You can get it HERE.), but I've always felt nervous about blindly approaching people on the street.  Inspired by Zach's book about giving yourself personal projects, I'm going to start a series of street portraits here on the blog.  And since picking up the Fuji XPro1, there's been no excuse to take it with me wherever I go.  Loving that camera! I met Hank on 14th Street near Union Square yesterday.  I've never met a woman named Hank before and I think it's seriously awesome and badass.  If you're out there Hank, you've got a free picture waiting for you.

Adam & Derya | Brooklyn Engagement

I'm going to be in San Antonio shooting their wedding this coming weekend; about time I featured their engagement session up on the blog! Derya here is a makeup artist that I've worked with on a number of occasions and Adam is an actor and filmmaker.  In other words, these are my people here!  It was great to have a shoot here in Brooklyn since they're making the move out to L.A. by way of a few months in San Antonio.  We rambled around Williamsburg and ended up at one of their favorite places, Cafe Collette.  Cool joint, great cocktails.  Not a bad way to wrap up a shoot!

And for you photo-heads, this is the second of my shoots to process with Visual Supply Company's Film Packs.  I freaking LOVE these plug-ins.  The best I've seen at replicating the tones and feel of film.  I believe I edited this shoot mostly with Film Pack 01, primarily using the plug-ins for Fuji 800Z.  But I'm a real big fan of the Kodak Portra 160VC plugins in Film Pack 02, I can't get enough of it.  What's great about all of this though is that you're not locked into one look, everything is fully customizable with all the tools that you usually have within Lightroom.  If you've been missing the look of film in your digital images, you best check it out.

Congrats again, Adam and Derya!  Can't wait to see you both in San Antonio!
