Over the past year I've been making the move into doing more corporate headshot photography. My main client has been KKR, a private equity firm with offices around the world. I've been fortunate enough to shoot both stills and video in their offices in New York, San Francisco, and Menlo Park. Not too long ago I shot both Henry Kravis and George Roberts, co-founders of KKR, for the corporate website. We also fit in an additional image of the two of them together for publicity purposes. For this shot I found a location in an empty floor of the building they occupy in New York City. I liked this hallway, but knew I'd have to throw some more light around to make the photo work as a whole. So while I lit the two of them with one 46" Photek Softlighter, I also put two other speedlights equipped with simple shoot through umbrellas on the background. One is accenting the wood division in the back and another is gelled blue, throwing a nice highlight on the curved wall behind them. Simple, but effective.
